Minnu’s Minute: Checklist for 11th Graders

Hello 11th graders!
As you are in between the transition from 11th and 12th standard and getting closer to your summer vacation, I wanted to give you a checklist of all things you generally need for a strong application to a university in the US.

1) High School Transcripts from 9 to 12 (Students who have taken challenging classes, Advanced Placement, Honors courses or college level courses would be a plus). Don’t forget to keep your grades up!
2) SAT and or ACT.  Think about which one you would like to do and when you want to take it and start studying for it.
3) TOEFL or IELTS scores
4) Strong letters of recommendation
5) Strong college essay/statement of purpose
6) The whole application process should give a 360 degree perspective of the student. The LORs, the extra-curricular activities, and the essay should complement each other and talk about the different aspects of the student.
7) Social impact work, internships, shadowing (measures the student has taken to understand what they want to study). During your summer vacation try pursue one or more of these.
8) Efforts to understand the university- Visiting the campus and or connecting with an admission counselor/current student or faculty
In our consequent newsletters, we will give you as much information as possible to assist you regarding each of these components and related parts of the college planning process. Until then, you can call The IKC at 080-41234927 or email me (Minnu) at minnu@myikc.com and we can help map out the process for you.
