A Comprehensive College and Career Preparation Program

Gen Next Education has designed a unique program to help students prepare for the big decisions they have to make as they prepare for college—any college in any country.

The program starts at Grade 8, and builds each year with new activities and assessments until Grade 11. Through this curriculum, we are committed to engaging with the entire school community—students, parents, teachers, counselors, and administrators—because we believe all the influencers in a student’s life should be involved in their process and decision-making toward their defining their career goals.

Our face-to-face sessions and interactions allow us to tailor the program to meet the needs of individual student populations.

We are not a “one-size-fits-all” program. Adaptability allows us to incorporate parent and administration feedback into our lessons, while still maintaining the essence of a sound career development program.

To maintain the integrity of our work with students, we use scientifically-based, reliable assessments that help students accurately identify and explore their strengths and interests. The use of databases and internationally recognized career development practices and resources further strengthen our program outcomes.

Student Success

Implementation of a strong career development program can benefit both the students and the school community.

  • For students, a better understanding of self can lead to more targeted academic decisions and a more positive work ethic.
  • Students feel motived to successfully engage in their daily tasks—both academic and extracurricular—because they can envision through career development activities how those tasks fit into their career plan and can lead to future success.
  • Schools that implement a career development program like BFS can make more strategic decisions about course offerings, supplemental programming, and targeted teacher training.
  • Additionally, by focusing on holistic student success and 21st century philosophies, these schools position themselves as thought leaders amongst their peers institutions.

Most importantly, because a school’s success is often measured by the success of its students, implementing BFS offers the school an advantage by generating success stories.

Self Development

By engaging in the BFS program, students will:

  • Generate a portfolio of worksheets, assessment results, research, and reflections and continue to add to throughout their participation in BFS.
  • Periodically reflect on their career development and planning,
  • Share their experiences with their parents, and
  • Use the language and results of their reflections in constructing personal essays, recommendation letters, and a resume of activities.

Exploring Options

We know from our past interactions with schools and students that career and college planning cannot be a last-minute decision. Careers don’t only develop on the basis of academic strengths; your child needs ample opportunities to understand themselves—their unique strengths, skills, likes and dislikes—and to explore the options available to them.

Implementation of a strong career development program can benefit your child and your family.  For your child, a better understanding of self can lead to more targeted academic decisions and a more positive work ethic. Your child will feel motivated to successfully engage in their daily tasks—both academic and extracurricular— because they can envision how those tasks fit into their career plan and can lead to future success. Introducing the language of career development and goal-setting can also open the lines of communication between you and your child and create a more beneficial planning environment for them to develop their goals.

Career Development

The BFS program aims to help students realize the following goals, which are adapted from the National Career Development Guidelines (NCDG).

  • PS1 – Develop an understanding of self to build and maintain a positive self-concept.
  • CM1 – Create and manage a career plan that meets their career goals.
  • CM2 – Use a process of decision-making as one component of career development.
  • CM3 – Use accurate, current and unbiased career information during career planning and management.
  • CM5 – Integrate changing employment trends, societal needs, and economic conditions into their career plans.
